Big data vs. small data - part 1

We don’t need more data. We already have much more than we need to be able to take better maintenance decisions.

We start by defining the business problem, knowing the alternative decisions that exist and understanding our failure mechanisms. Isthere an aging problem? Does the equipment load exceed the design limits? What about the impact of the environment?

In which of our business systems can we find answers to these questions? And which staff members with particular knowledge and experience should we involve?
